AnDao Jewelry is growing!

This Blog, as a source of information for my clients and friends, has been put on the back burner because of a good news, bad news situation. That being, I’ve been so busy I haven’t found the time to post. That situation is changing however, not that I’m less busy, but because my company is growing! I’ve brought someone aboard to be my director of Sales and Marketing. Someone who shares my vision and will help me communicate with the friends of “ AnDao Jewelry” through this Blog. Her name is Sonia Hauff.
Sonia is a licensed Esthetician with extensive experience in luxury retail, having worked for or consulted with brands such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, The Waldorf Astoria, Coach and others. She is now in the process of putting together a team to help with our trunk shows and to do select homes shows. We’re also recruiting someone to be the caretaker of this Blog as we move forward. It is our hope and pleasure to inform, educate and just have a good time with this Blog and “ AnDao Jewelry”.

The different between metal Solid Gold, Gold Filled, Vermeil, Gold Plated,

There are always many different terms that come up. The most popular are Solid Gold, Gold Filled, and Gold Plated.  It is important to know the differences between Gold Filled jewelry and Gold Plated jewelry. Solid gold is of course an exquisite piece of jewelry. Gold filled is the next level and is an amazing, quality alternative to solid gold.  Gold plating is the lower level and these items tend to tarnish and can often times turn the skin green.

Gold Filled:  Gold filled is an actual layer of gold-pressure bonded to another metal.  Gold filled is not to be confused with gold plating as filled literally has 100% more gold than gold plating.  Gold filled is much more valuable and tarnish resistant.  It does not flake off, rub off or turn colors.  As a matter of fact, anyone who can wear gold can wear gold filled without worries of any allergic reaction to the jewelry.  Gold filled jewelry is an economical alternative to solid gold!
Vermeil:  Vermeil  is a more expensive version of gold plated jewelry. It consists of a sterling silver base that is coated or plated with gold. And again, if the longest lifespan is in the first place for you, your option is vermeil or gold filled jewelry.

Pros: Vermeil jewelry wears off less than gold plated one
Cons: No wonder that the price is also high. And you should be aware that although the sterling silver layer is covered with gold, it might tarnish and thus darken the gold layer.

Government Regulation:  Gold filled items are regulated by the government.  These items are therefore so much better then gold plated which has no regulations at all.  Gold filled jewelry is made from solid gold and filled with other alloys such as rhodium (a member of the platinum family), brass, and sterling silver.  Gold filled wears, looks and lasts like solid gold because its outer surface IS solid gold.  Everything you can see and touch is pure gold.  In the jewelry industry the quantity of gold must be at least 1/20th by weight of the total product.
Lifetime Products:  Gold-Filled items are generally considered lifetime products, and the gold layer will not wear off, as it will in electroplated products.  Gold filled jewelry is often called the wave of the future because it offers all the same characteristics as solid gold such as strength, durability and beauty….but at a fraction of the cost!

Caring for Gold Filled:  Caring for Gold Filled items is as easy as caring for any gold jewelry. Simply keep away from chemicals, Frequent cleaning is re-commented to maintain its true beauty. Wipe your jewelry carefully with soft cloth to keep it clean and free  of these elements with oxidizes. Take a small bowl that will hold about a quart of water and line it with aluminum of foil. Add hot water and a tablespoon of Tide washing powder ( not liquid or bleach) and stir. Place your jewelry in the solution for 1 minute and rinse with clean water and air dry. This works great with sterling silver too. And it will not hurt any stones. If you have a build-up of dirt in hard to reach places, just put a little of gentle liquid dishwasher  in a bowl of water and soak over night in a small bowl that will hold about a quart of water and line it with aluminum foil. Add hot water and a tablespoon of Tide washing powder (not liquid or with bleach) and stir. Place your jewelry in the solution for about 1 minute and rinse with clean water and air dry. This works great on Sterling Silver, too, and it will not hurt any stones. If you have a build-up of dirt in hard to reach places, just put a little of gentle dishwashing liquid in a bowl of water and soak over night.
